I'm leaving Barreiro! 😭 And this time it's for real. I don't know why, but this time it was so much harder to say goodbye! We ended strong though. None of our friends had come to church the whole transfer and then this Sunday three of them came! And they loved it! We studied the talk "the immediate goodness of God" in relief society and our our friends Lais and Olivia loved it! They both made comments during the class too! Olivia doesn't speak portuguese, so I was translating for her during the class and then translated her comment into portuguese. It was the first time I had tried translating in the moment like that, and by a miracle from heaven, she was able to keep up with what was going on, comment, and have an uplifting experience. Lais quickly made friends with some members and was really touched by the class. She said that here, she felt like she would have a support system. Her comment in the class was how we had shown up in her life right a...

Fantastic Fiasco

Olá familia e queridos amigos!   I am starting off this letter the way our week started, full of fiasco! Lol! We'll start with P-day. We had a zone pday activity that was really fun, though I had put my sunscreen on so hastily that morning that I ended up with this really funny goggle shaped sunburn! Really attractive. But we had a lot of fun. We left at about 10 that morning and didn't go back home until around 6. As we approached our apartment building we began to hear a faint beeping noise. As we ascended the staircase it got louder and louder until we open the door to our apartment to hear our fire alarm going crazy! We run in and there is no fire. Thank goodness. Just a crazy alarm. We hush it, but a few minutes later it started going off again! We have to go catch a train so we didn't have a lot of time to figure it out. We try taking off the cap so we can take the batteries out, but its stuck and won't budge. So then Sister Stalder is taking a kni...

Cookie Monster

This week we decided we wanted to make cookies. Good old American chocolate chip cookies. (here they call them bolaches americana, literally American cookies, and everyone knows you are talking about chocolate chip.) so we bought all the stuff, or as close as we could manage to the same stuff, and we made cookies and they turned out..... Not great. We forgot The dough was very liquid, so the cookies turned out flat, but we figured out that if you microwave it they will turn into almost a cake so we just make ourselves mini microwave cakes. They were actually pretty good! We tried again for district cousil and they turned out better, but still not great. Then finally we decided to make peanut butter cookies and they turned out awesome! We were planning to give them to a friend of ours and so we didn't end up eating any, we burnt the first batch though so we got to eat those! After that we both were sugared out and I don't want to see another cookie for at least a month...

"Have fun storming the castle!”

Image
Oi pessoal! I will first explain the title. Because we are crazy young adults we decided after our morning naps that we wanted to go to a castle that is an hour away. So we cleaned our house, did our shopping, ate lunch, and now, at noon, we are on our way! We are going to try to be fast, but this activity is not going to leave us much time at the end of the day, but it's gonna be worth it!! Thus the title. We are gonna storm this castle. This week was a crazy busy week! On Wednesday and thuesday we had appointments all day on all ends of Barreiro and we had exchanges with he STLs on Tuesday until Wednesday. So those days were highly stressful, and then on Friday we had conference of the zone! Oh gosh. Zone conference. We had zone conference. English is hard. It was awesome! We learned how to do a plan of salvation lesson in 4 minutes for when people don't have a lot of time to talk to us. The trick is that the thing that is most important is to bring the spirit, ...

Call me Fátima

Image
And now, I am official!! This week I did SEF, which means I am an official resident of Portugal! (thus the title, Fátima is a SUPER common name here, due to one of the more popular saints in Portugal, so since I am a resident of Portugal now, I was thinking I should try harder to blend it lol) There were a bunch of us who did SEF at the same time so Tuesday night there were 15 sisters sleeping in one apartment! Granted, it was a big apartment, but it was louco, that's for sure. I saw Sister Moulton though and we got to talk for a minute and sister George and Jardine who were also in the MTC with me, so it was a party!       I have one story to share for this week, but I think this story is worth about a thousand stories. Brace yourself. We were waiting for a compromisso and had like 20 minutes, so we did some contacting in the nearby park. We were talking to a little old lady and she was just talking about saints and stuff like that and we were just sitting li...
