Coming Home

Image
Do you think they have places to call in the airport? With the quarentine we can't go into stores and I am leaving my phone here with  sister  Noble. Maybe I can use a payphone? (followed by a thorough handwashing) Yeah! It has been a long day of just sitting around. It feels weird to not have anywhere to go or to do.... I went for a brief walk with another  sister  and we had to stay far away from other people and it was so hard to not talk to them! There are four other  sisters  here who haven't finished their missions yet, but are being sent home for health. I feel so sad for them! They got a call yesterday and were told they were going home. No warning at all!

The Last Melon

Well. We have arrived. Houston, prepare for landing. The last week. I probs won't write next week, so this is the last email. I don't have much to say. We worked hard this week. We had to stay inside a little to take care of   Sister   Noble, she is feeling a lot better though which is awesome! So we didn't have a lot of time, but we managed to teach 10 less actives!! And we found a super solid new person to teach! His name is André and he was taught in the past, but he didn't want to be baptised. But he is super open to hear and talking to him it seemed he just hadn't understood the invitation to be baptised. He wants to come to church next week and we will meet with him tonight to see if he read the book of Mormon! We did get some sad news though yesterday. When we fly over to the continente for me to go home,  sister  Noble will stay on the continente as well. There is a  sister  who is going home earlier than expected, and she will be taking her ...

15+ hours in the hospital: a saga

Image
So I started writing a different group email, but I had only gotten to Wednesday and it was already about the length of Alma, so I decided to start over and do a more abbreviated version. We had an eventful week! We started the week off strong spending 15+ hours in the hallway of a Portuguese hospital. Sister Noble had been having intense abdominal pain for over a week (she only told me on Sunday though) so finally we convinced her to go the hospital. They poked and prodded her, ignored us for a few hours and filled her with drugs, they even did an x ray (I was doing a lot of the talking because she was in too much pain to try and understand medical terms in Portuguese, and it took me a minute to find out what they were saying. X-ray in Portuguese is pronounced "hi-o sheeze") but they couldn't find anything so they found a bed for her and we spent the night. She slept for about 3 hours and I paced our hallway and slept for maybe 30 minutes in one of the little w...

The final countdown

Starting an email is the hardest part, and no matter how many I have written, they never get any easier. So I guess I'll just jump right in!   Last Monday we had a fun chill pday. We took a bus over to Ribeira grande and ate pizza and went to the beach with the elders. The waves were ENORMOUS! I had dreams about tsunamis that night. Lol.   Tuesday we had the last district counsel of the transfer. We knew elder Miranda was leaving the island after his 4 transfers, so we had a big breakfast all together with French toast bread pudding, juice, and cornbread. Kinda a weird breakfast, but it was yummy! We have had a good time together, and we will miss Elder Miranda, our fearless leader. But Élder Pullan will take his place as our fearless leader this transfer so all is well. And Elder Miranda is off to fearlessly lead a zone. So proud of them!   Later this week we went to visit a less active family and it turns out that the Carters had visited only an ho...

Blitz it

Image
Sorry I didn't send an email last week! We had a crazy pday! We were up early and went to a beautiful place called sete cidades with the sister APs (they flew in Sunday night) then later we got ice cream with President (who flew in on Monday) and that was the end of pday! That night we had 8 sisters in our area! Mega blitz! I went on a division with one of our stls Sister Prado. She is from Ecuador and has the cutest accent when she speaks português! We go home together so it was fun to serve with her for a little bit. The next day we had conference for the island missionaries! I was glad it was separate because the island is truly different than any of the other areas I served in on the continent. After conference I got to go on a division with one of our sister APs Sister Nilson! I love her! She reminds me of Lizzie a lot. Really fun, hard working, faithful, sporty, and beautiful. We did good work together. Then on Wednesday I went out with the other sister AP Sister Ho...

Helloooo

Ok, for the first time in my whole mission I am not going to send a really solid, long group email. I don't have time today, sorry! But everything is going great! I am happy! Love you all! Sister Hardy The only other foto I have from this week lol We went to a beautiful spot on the island today!

That's doente man!

Olá família e amigos! Another week has passed on the island and I am beginning to experience what is commonly known as "Island fever." Induced by spending long periods of time out of close proximity with other missionaries, on an isolated island in an area where you already feel you have knocked every door in town one can begin seeing symptoms such as: finding lame jokes hilarious, crying while watching cheesy church movies on the tiny mission issued DVD player, buying a lot of junk food, and having an entire conversation through gifs as a district. To be honest, it's been a blast! To all who know me, you know I don't really mind isolation, and my companion and I get along really well and we work well too! We did face some real illness this week which slowed us down a bit just because our bodies were tired, but we worked as hard as we could and we definitely saw some miracles!   It was Sister Noble's birthday this week! I wanted to make it special be...
