I ate a snail

See the title. That's it for my email this week. Stay cool.

Just kidding. Though that was pretty crazy! We went over to the house of a less active and her mom is not a member and so we were going to teach them, but before we got started they offered us a bunch of food, including snail. She said that we didnt have to try the snail if we didnt want to. I didnt want to, but then I thought about telling someone that I had the opportunity to eat snail and didnt take it. I didnt want to face that kind of shame. So I took a toothpick poked the face and pulled it out. It was really long and slimy looking. After some deep breaths I popped it in! To be honest it didnt taste that bad at all. It was just knowing that I was eating a snail that made me feel a bit queezy.

This week was awesome!! I feel like I am finally getting into the swing of this whole missionary thing. I can tell because this week just felt like your average missionary week! We walked and rode busses, talked to hundreds of strangers, and were rejected by hundreds of strangers. God placed us in the path of some incredible people, and placed some incredible people in ours. We taught, we shared our testimonies, we worked. And it feels good. People are often surprised when we tell them what we do. You dont get paid? You do this everyday? What about school and normal life? "why are you doing it?" I have thought a lot about that last question the last few months. Why am I here? Then one man asked us straight up "why are you doing this" and the answer that I gave him, the answer that came from my mouth before I even thought about it, "Because we know its true." And I do. I do know its true. I know that Christ is my savoir, God is my father, we have a living prophet on the earth today and as proof of that we have the book of mormon. A powerful and sacred book of scripture that has brought me so much peace and clarity. We are a peculiar people, missionaries, and members of the church. There are some things we do differently, our lives may seem different, so "why are we doing it?" What is your answer going to be? I know what mine is.

Ok, I am going to tell you the coolest conversion story ever that I heard this week. We have this couple in the ward that were baptised only a few months ago, but are super strong and have been a wonderful strenght to the ward here. I asked him to tell us his conversion story at dinner one night and my mind was blown. For his whole life he hadnt believed in God. Only a vague creator. Then one night he had a dream and a man in a white vest approached him and said "My name is Joseph, I am a prophet, and I was killed by gunshot" The next morning he told his girlfriend about his dream and she laughed at him a little so he decided to look it up. He looked up Joseph, Prophet. And obviously Joseph Smith showed up. They thought that was a little odd, so his girlfriend said to find out how he had died, and it said, killed by gunshot. After that they got in contact with missionaries through the church website and were baptised 3 weeks later. I know there are stories of people having dreams and things, and its not that I don´t believe them, but, I was just so detatched from those stories that I never gave them much thought. But stuff like that really does happen! God truly is a God of miracles!!!! He is the same yesterday, today and forever!!! Man. So cool.

My eyes are starting to hurt from every word of this email being underlined in red (the computer is in portuguese) so I am going to wrap it up here. I hope everyone has a wonderful week, and looks for opportunities to have experiences with the spirit this week! Testimonies are like muscles, if you dont work to strengthen them they are just going to turn into limp spaguetti. Or maybe dried spaguetti that shatters really easily with pressure? I dunno. Choose the metaphor you like best.
