I’m getting transferred…
I'm getting transferred again. TO PORTUGAL!!!!🇵🇹🇵🇹😄😄 Last Monday I got an email from the mission President in Portugal to a bunch of people (written in Portuguese) that said they were excited for our arrival.... I was pretty confused so we texted sister Cleveland and she hadnt heard anything, but the next day she texted saying she'd emailed me my flight plans! Crazy! I leave next Monday evening. (I am pretty sure I'll be able to call, mom! I still need to get permissions, but I should be able to call around 5 your time. I will let you know for sure nest monday) I am super excited, but also sad. I have really come to love Michigan, and I have met so many wonderful people and worked with great companions. I am also pretty scared about speaking another language. I just have to remember that it's ok to make mistakes, that is how I will learn. I know the Lord has a greater plan for me than what I can see right now, I trust Him!
Last P-day we went down to Detroit! The roads were pretty sketch but we made it safely! (Going like 20mph on a freeway lol) our first stop was eastern market. It's like a little farmers market, but it's closed on Mondays. But we weren't going for the market. The area around is like an outside art gallery with giant murals EVERYWHERE! It is so cool! It is kind of a sketchy looking area, dirty back alley ways and such, but we were perfectly safe, don't worry! We got some cool pictures with the murals if interrupted by some snow. The area is also covered in stickers on every metal surface so we had fun searching for some cool ones, but it was so cold they were really hard to peel off. After that we went down to the center of Detroit and ate at a cute little shake shack. We saw the "spirit of Detroit" statue which we read represents the connection with man, God, and the family. Super cool actually! And we saw Canada! I guess this is one of, if not the only place you have to go south to get to Canada! For a last hurrah in Detroit we bought slushies in the middle of a blizzard! They were delicious!
That was our fun activity for the week, but we had a great rest of the week as well! All of the people we were working with no longer want to meet with us which was devastating, and the one person who does (he texted us himself to set up an appointment! It was so cool!) doesn't live in our area so we had to referr him away. We were feeling pretty discouraged because we felt we were doing all we could. But yesterday we were blessed with another referral! He seems solid and I have faith that he will start to progress and soon enter the waters of baptism and embark on the straight and narrow path leading to God! I know that this time in my mission, though hard, is preparing me, because I have heard that in Portugal it will be even harder to find people who are willing to listen and learn. I am so grateful for the wisdom of God! He knows his children can do hard things, and he will be there to help us every step of the way!
We get fed almost every week by this sweet older lady in our ward. She is extremely animated and kinda dramatic, and it is always so fun to be at her house! She lives in pretty humble circumstances and she told us a story this week that really touched my heart. She said her son asked her why she is always feeding the missionaries. And she told him it was because she knew that if she did she would have enough food for herself the rest of the week. She has only been a member for 2 years, but her faith can be an example to all of us. And her food is pretty dang delicious too! She was asked to give a testimony at stake conference and she is so nervous! She has spent the last few dinners we've had rehearsing what she wants to say. She has wonderful insights, and it is incredible seeing her passion for the gospel and heavenly father. I love her! The members here are so wonderful. It makes me wonder what the church and the work will be like in Portugal!
It was so cold earlier this week! Our President even told us we were not allowed to do any finding activities outside because it was too dangerously cold. I felt so bad for the elders who were on bikes! I don't know how they did it! The last two days have been startlingly warm. Well above 40° (much better than Wednesdays nearly -40°!) And all the snow is nearly gone already! And I thought the weather in Spokane was weird...
Not much else to say I guess this week. We are going shopping today to get some pants. I decided it would be best to get them while I am in America because they will probably be cheaper and easier to find a pair that fits. Never thought I'd be shipping for pants as a missionary! I'm also getting a haircut today (nothing too drastic, just a few layers, don't worry mom!) Nothing as exciting as exploring Detroit in the middle of a literal blizzard, but still fun!
Spiritual thought for this week:
God is mindful of you and loves each and every one of us. And when we are not sure what to do, where to go, or what to say, we can always ask for guidance. Never forget though that God gave us our minds and our ability to reason and so God will sometimes let us choose. In D&C 60-63 there is an interesting pattern where God gives commandments and guidance and then when another issue comes up he says "choose [this] or [this] it mattered not to me." As long as we are being righteous and are striving to do good, every righteous, kind, or good this we do will be lead by the spirit.
Ok that's all!
Love you all! Stay classy!

Hello father of mine! Lion king! So fun! I saw that in new York and the costumes and puppets are very impressive! Did you know there is a lightening theif musical coming out? We saw an advertisement for it when we were downtown. It sounds kinda dumb, but maybe you can get Lizzie to listen to the music and tell me how it is?
This week was a little rough. We had some really awesome potentials and they all dropped us or started to ignore us completely. I feel like this transfer has been one big trial of my faith, but I guess that just means there is a big fat miracle coming soon. Because we "receive no witness until after the trial of [our] faith."
I love you dad! Always remember that there are more that be with you than what is against. I am with you dad, but more importantly, Christ is with you! Every step of the way! But you didn't need me to tell you that. ❤
Have a great time in Hawaii! "And on the seventh day he rested"
Love,
